Student testimonial: When experience just isn’t enough

Project management professionals are needed all over the world, but does experience trump certifications?

Since completing his PMP training with the Learning People, Danny Cheeseman has set up his own business – D.a.N Partners Ltd – for interim management.

Through this he’s currently working with a company based in the US, completing project work and assessing business development on an international level.

Why choose the Learning People for your training?

“I had just left my previous company where I’d worked for 23 years.

“This gave me a lot of experience in international business managing large regional offices in Europe, Middle East and Asia.

“But this was not enough for many recruitment agencies and job vacancies I had seen.

“So I signed up for the PMP and PRINCE2 with the Learning People, which meant I had something current that a lot of companies were asking for.”

How well do you feel you were supported in your learning?

“Every time I asked a question I received the answer within a day, so I was happy with the support given by the team.

“When it came to navigating around the platform, I found the training really easy to use and experienced no issues.

“Because of this experience, I would definitely recommend the Learning People to friends, family and colleagues.”

What difference has the PMP made to your career so far?

“It has made me look at things differently in a more structured manner.

“The training has definitely helped me with the current projects that I am working on, therefore giving stakeholders a much more professional understanding of the processes being completed.”

Where do you see yourself professionally in five years time?

“Hopefully a good career with a company that has seen my value through interim management.

“I would like to have gained experience as a senior manager through the qualifications I have gained.

“However development of my own business is also the way forward for me, using my skills to provide continued good management consultancy/project work.”

What advice would you offer other students?

“Give yourself plenty of time and plan your study well ensuring that your knowledge is sufficient for the exam.

“Try to look at examples and work through them – this is the best way to retain the information being learnt.”
