This is the most accessible and popular gateway into tech. Help desk Tier 1 roles are usually open to those with little or no prior experience. In fact, many employers will actively consider candidates with customer service backgrounds or general technical interests for their transferable skills.
Typically, these roles respond to IT help requests, record details of issues, find and fix faults, install new IT systems, set up and manage user accounts and train people on how to correctly use software.

A Junior Cybersecurity/SOC Analyst acts as the first line of defence, responsible for 24/7 monitoring of security systems, analysing alerts, and conducting initial triage of potential threats. Key duties include phishing analysis, vulnerability scanning, documenting incidents, and escalating complex issues to senior analysts.

As cloud adoption accelerates, entry-level cloud roles are booming. Cloud roles are consistently among the highest-paying positions in the UK IT market, reflecting the acute shortage of cloud-certified professionals.
These roles are primarily responsible for monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting cloud infrastructure (AWS, Azure, or GCP) to ensure high availability, performance, and security.

5. Junior Software Developer/Junior Software Engineer

A fantastic role for coders. You'll write, test, and maintain code under the guidance of senior developers; most roles require a coding or software certification.
