Australia’s annual spend on infrastructure has more than doubled in the past decade to $100bn and shows no signs of slowing down. 2025 has seen a key focus around major transportation updates and renewable energy initiatives.
With the 2032 Olympic Games being held in Brisbane there are plenty of upcoming projects on the way to ensure the success of the historic global event. With this, the demand for skilled workers, particularly Project Management Professionals (PMP), will inevitably increase, so now is the perfect opportunity to contribute.

Continued investment means growing demand for skilled workers
From the Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport set to open late 2026, to the current Inland Rail Project across Melbourne and Brisbane, it’s clear Australia is dedicated to evolving the country’s connectivity.
Future plans include the Western Harbour Tunnel which is set to be completed in 2032 ahead of the Brisbane Olympics, bringing in over 7,000 construction jobs.
Acting Minister for Western Sydney Courtney Houssos said “This project is another example of how our Minns Labor Government is spending our government procurement dollars to create more well-paid, highly skilled jobs right here in NSW.”
Transformative projects such as these require a huge amount of manpower and skilled professionals, from engineers and planners to surveyors and electricians, and in particular, talented Project Managers.
Tackling the Australian skills gap ahead of expansion
Jobs and Skills Australia Occupation Shortage List (OSL), highlighted a shortage of Construction Project Management Professionals in Australia overall with increased demand in NSW, Queensland, West Australia and the Northern Territory.
A career in Project Management is not a career to be overlooked, with the correct qualifications a PMP salary ranges from $135,000 to $155,000 (seek.com.au July 2025). In fact, construction roles are the third highest paying in the country offering $139k+ with 3,590 roles currently available across the country.
With proven demand for skilled Project Managers, particularly within construction, now is a better time than ever to get certified, or to update your current qualifications.
