Is New Zealand the new heart of APAC cloud boom?
It was recently announced that Amazon Web Services (AWS) officially opened its new Auckland data centres on Tuesday 2nd September, which will bring 1,000 jobs and add an estimated $10.8 billion to the economy.
The New Zealand Government also pledged a $7.6 billion investment with AWS announcing an agreement to train more than 100,000 people in cloud computing, showing the importance of skilled data-driven and cloud workers. This came after a cloud first policy was agreed to encourage cloud adoption across the public sector.
New Zealand needs to embrace the technology
"We know that our firms, when they embrace more cloud-based applications and services, are more productive and will make more money and be more profitable than those that don't.
That's why our investment-boost product is designed to help support those companies embracing more technology."
New opportunities for New Zealand, and you
The new regions being added to AWS APAC and the future estimated growth for cloud offers some fantastic opportunities for New Zealand and its residents.
AWS Hero Arshad Zackeriya said about the new region “The launch of the AWS Region in New Zealand is a game-changer for our country. It’s not just about a new set of data centres; it’s about unlocking the potential of New Zealand’s businesses and developer communities, allowing us to build a better, more connected Aotearoa for all.”
