Business leaders put more trust in industry certificates than university degrees
According to the report, 49% of tech workers wanted to develop their cyber security skills, and with large scale cyber-attacks happening, that comes as no surprise. The other two areas workers were most interested in upskilling in were AI and machine learning (47%) and data analytics & visualisation (39%).
In the past year, 96% of technology professionals have taken steps to improve or maintain their digital skills, compared to 70% of the wider workforce engaging in reskilling. This significant gap highlights the growing need for continuous digital upskilling in tech roles, where staying current with evolving tools and practices is essential for career longevity and success.
In fact, 41% of surveyed business leaders view industry certificates as more effective indicators of tech worker performance than university degrees. They were also 1.5 times more likely to place their trust in industry certifications than university degrees when it comes to developing digital skills.
