The current average annual salary for an IT Support Technician in Australia is between $70,000 to $80,000. In New Zealand, it's $65,000 to $75,000. In Wellington, this increases to $77,000, and $105,000 in Gladstone and Central QLD.

In more senior IT roles - such as IT Manager - this increases to between $125,000 and $145,000 AUD, or $125,000 to $140,000 NZ. Earning potential continues to grow once you specialise in an area such as cybersecurity, coding or cloud.

Which is the best IT course?

The best IT course depends on how much experience you have in the field already, and what your career goals are. If you're an entry-level learner, the IT Foundation Skills or CompTIA A+ is a great gateway into a career in IT. However, if you already have some IT experience and are looking to specialise in Cyber Security for example, it's worth looking into CompTIA Security+.

Do you need to know how to code to work in IT?

There are plenty of jobs that do not require any coding, such as IT Support Specialist, Data Analyst and Project Manager. Have a look at our Career Pathways to help you identify your ideal IT role.

Which IT course is the most in demand?
