Project management is an excellent career choice for those who have an interest in planning and organising large projects and motivating and leading a team. It's a crucial role within any organisation, with great career growth across the UK. 

Most transferrable skills for Project Management

Communication, leadership, emotional intelligence, adaptability and resilience, problem-solving and time management are soft skills you might already possess which are incredibly valuable in project management roles.

With 53,978 jobs currently live on Adzuna.co.uk, I wanted to take a look at why this is a fantastic career to get into with steady demand in some fascinating sectors. 24% of current live jobs are within Engineering, followed by Trade and Construction (22%), IT (17%), Accounting and Finance (6%), and PR, Advertising and Marketing (5%). 

These roles are looking at salaries of around £57,298, jumping up to as high as £94,415 in the North West of England. 

Where in the UK has the highest salaries and most roles for project managers, according to Adzuna (2025).

Looking at more specific areas of project management, the average salary for IT Project Managers is £63,307, Finance offers £62,265, and Construction: £60,545. 

There is absolutely no denying that these roles will continue to be crucial to UK businesses, with human critical thinking being at the forefront of these roles.  

The UK's Project Management Boom 

There’s no denying that a career in project management is a smart choice for Brits. For those at the beginning of your journey, you might not think this is the right choice for you, but let me assure you, your skills and hard work will pay off when it comes to project management roles.  

Junior positions, like Project Administrator, come with an average salary of £41,382, with the highest salaries of over £53,000 found in London. These positions have healthy demand with 24,000+ opportunities currently live on Adzuna.com. 

A few examples of companies currently hiring project managers in the UK, include: Barclays, global infrastructure leader AECOM, and engineering giant WSP Group.

80% of project management professionals say they are satisfied with their current role, according to The Association of Project Management 2025 Salary and Market Trends Survey. 

In addition, 82% of workers in the project management sector feel optimistic about there being a good supply of quality, fulfilling jobs over the next five years.

Pay for project managers has gone up by 3.4% year-on-year, sitting around 35% above the UK national salary.

Honing in on specific sectors, the number of construction project manager job ads were 10.5% higher in 2025 than the previous year, and the average construction project manager salary is currently 52.8% higher than the national salary. 

With the UK Government's continued investment in infrastructure and new digital technologies such as AI, the project management sector is projected to continue to grow throughout 2026.
