Learning People partnership with Women in Business Expo

With the aim of promoting diversity and closing the skills gap, Learning People are proud to announce a perfect partnership with Women in Business Expo (WIBEXPO) in the lead up to their next event.

A recent study by PwC revealed some shocking findings when it came to examining the progress of women representation in the technology industry. A quarter of female students reported they were opposed to seeking a career down this route due to it being ‘too male dominated.’ Learning People are more determined than ever to spread awareness of how easy it is for women to strive in the tech industry with endless opportunities due to its forever changing nature. Speak to one of our expert career consultants today to find out more about how to get started.

With this in mind, when we heard of the like-minded WIBEXPO we jumped at the opportunity to get involved. Here’s what happened when we caught up with their sales manager, Charity Holden.

What is WIBEXPO?

Women in Business Expo is the first large-scale national dedicated event of it’s kind, designed to provide inspiration and practical guidance to women at all stages of their professional lives, whether they are starting a business, developing an existing one, looking to further their career in the corporate arena, or returning to work after having a family. Headlined by the UK’s top female entrepreneurs & supported by global brands it’s an opportunity for women to explore developing and furthering their careers.

What was the inspiration behind the event?

The inspiration of the event was the brain-child of our MD, a man who has spent his whole career putting on award winning exhibitions. He could see that there was no single event where women at all stages of their professional lives could go to get the inspiration and practical guidance they need to progress their careers.

What can attendees expect from the event?

The UK’s top female entrepreneurs including Baroness Karren Brady and Lady Michelle Mone as the keynote speakers. Two days of seminars and workshops in five dedicated theatres, a chance to network and engage with employers looking to meet their next employees, as well as business services for those women looking to develop their own enterprises as well as a dedicated franchise zone with access to a bespoke matchmaking service, CV and interview clinic, a well-being and mindfulness zone to understand how to cope with the stresses of work in the 21st century.

The event is free to attend for attendees with a free creche, free parking on-site and a free shuttle bus service to and from the venue. Farnborough International Exhibition Centre is the largest, most state-of-the-art venue to the west of London.

Who is this event for?

The event is for women looking to start their own business, develop an existing one, those looking to progress in the corporate arena and mum returners. The event is also for those corporate leaders and business influencers looking to understand the benefits and challenges of fully diversifying their workforce, a chance to network with other business leaders and listen to meaningful, insightful seminars.

What is set to be the key highlights of the event?

  • Baroness Karren Brady, Lady Michelle Mone and Caprice headlining
  • Networking opportunity with global brands
  • Inspiring and motivational seminar and workshop opportunities to promote diversity and inclusion

Finally; at Learning People, we are passionate about encouraging diversity within the tech industry, how does WIBEXPO promote the closing of the gender skills gap within industries like ours?

Creating a more diverse boardroom is essential, but so is addressing the inherent stereotypes that drive male-dominated executive leadership in the first place. Companies must work to objectively evaluate worker performance, showcase female innovation and educate individuals about quashing the stereotyping process.

We cannot ignore the fact that gender bias in the workplace exists. We are truly working toward gender parity when we address the underlying cause and spark a conversation about diversity in the boardroom which we hope to do at the expo.

The tech industry is poorly represented by females, but with global brands recognising this disparity and wanting to be part of the event it goes someway to addressing the issue. With a designated Tech Zone, some inspirational tech leaders providing seminars and workshops as well as global brands showcasing themselves as companies that promote female leadership we hope that women, even those without a tech background can explore the opportunities available within the arena, and even with the help of companies like Learning People gain the necessary skills to develop a career in the industry.
