Ben Kings Testimonial | From Policing to Cybersecurity

In this student story, we speak to Ben, who had been working in the police for 20 years and was looking for a new venture. He wanted some credible certifications to help him break into the world of cybersecurity as well as coaching on how to transition his career.

With three certifications under his belt and with support from Learning People, Ben was able to secure a new and exciting role in cybersecurity with a pay increase.

I thought I was stuck in policing for the rest of my life. They allowed me to see a world outside of what I currently do. In 6-7 months, it’s helped me achieve three certifications in cybersecurity and secure a new position.

 

Tell us about yourself and the courses that you took

My name is Ben Kings, and I have completed my CompTIA CySA+, CompTIA Network+, and CompTIA Security+ certifications with Learning People. 

 

Why did you first reach out to Learning People?

I reached out to Learning People because I wanted to career change. I've been in law enforcement for nearly 20 years. I wanted to look at getting certifications, but it’s quite confusing when you go out on the web to look at cybersecurity: what you should do, what you shouldn't do. I just wanted coaching on that pathway and how to achieve the best route.

 

What kind of support did you receive?

All the way through, I had support. You've obviously got to put that effort in yourself - you only get out what you put into it, which they tell you when you join up. If you pay the money, you can't just expect to automatically get qualifications. I went with Learning People because I knew they’d help me with my CV, with scheduling studying and timetables around my job, and they always got back to me very quickly. 

 

What has been your favourite part of your journey? 

How positive they are: StudentCare™ are really, really good. I certainly couldn't have got through it without their ongoing support. It’s second to none how positive they are with you. They couldn't do enough for me, and they'll do the same for you if you're thinking of enrolling. 

 

Has enrolling with Learning People helped develop your career?

It absolutely has - it's changed my career path for the better. I've landed a really good job in an area I'm now qualified in that I enjoy. I’m earning more money than I ever have before, so it's worked out really well for me.
