Ollie worked as a careers consultant for project management at Learning People for six years. He decided to enter the field of project management himself due to his prior knowledge of the industry.

Since enrolling with career services at Learning People, Oliie has earned his Change Management, Agile PM Foundation, AgilePM® Practitioner, and APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ) certifications. With the support of Learning People, he now has the skills and confidence to take him far in his new career as a junior project manager.

Tell us about yourself and the courses that you took

My name is Ollie, and I studied the project management career pathway, including the APM Project Management Qualification (PMQ), Agile PM® Foundation and Practitioner, and the Change Management Foundation.

Why did you first reach out to Learning People?

I worked with the Learning People for over six years, and after a while, I decided it was time to start practising what I preached for such a long time and get into the industry myself.

How has enrolling with Learning People impacted your career development?

Studying alongside Learning People has profoundly transformed my career. Although I had been involved with Learning People for a long time, I lacked practical project experience and wasn't sure how to transition into the industry.

After enrolling in relevant courses and adding them to my CV, I was able to secure an interview for a junior project manager position. Interestingly, you don't necessarily have to complete the courses to start benefiting from them; the key factor is that employers recognise your commitment to ongoing education.

What's been the best part of your learning journey?

The best part of my learning journey was undoubtedly the career service. Ensuring that my CV was tailored for the job application process was key, and there’s no one better to assist you with that. I thought my CV was in great shape before working with the career service team, but their guidance made a significant difference during my interview. In fact, my strong CV was mentioned positively, which boosted my confidence.

I also found the networking aspect to be crucial. It’s not just about what you know; it’s also about who you know. Learning People can connect you with partners and provide advice that you might not have considered. I only applied for two or three positions, and that was sufficient for me to secure a role.

"The most valuable aspect of my learning journey was definitely the career service. Ensuring that my CV was tailored for the application process is crucial, and there’s no one better to assist with that. to help you with that."

What would you say to somebody who is thinking about enrolling with Learning People?

It's the people who make time for the things they want to do who will be successful at those endeavors. You also need to consider the employer's perspective. If you're not investing time in your career and in yourself, how can you expect them to invest in you?

The most important takeaway is this: don’t procrastinate. If you know you want to make a change, take action and get started.

Was enrolling with Learning People worth the investment?

Absolutely, it is worth the investment—there's really no doubt about it. The cost of the course is typically recouped within your first year, and it pays off even more in your later career. Over the course of your professional life, it could return tenfold or even a hundredfold. It's truly an easy decision.

What makes Learning People particularly valuable is their career services and support. Without that assistance, I certainly wouldn't be where I am today. If you're looking to make a change, don’t waste time—just dive in and get started!
