What is Women into Home Building and Why Does it Matter?
Women into Home Building is a UK initiative led by the Home Builders Federation (HBF) to increase the number of women entering the housebuilding industry. Created to tackle both the sector’s skills shortage and long-standing gender imbalance, the programme provides structured site placements, practical training, and clear routes into employment with leading homebuilders.
Participants gain hands-on experience in on-site roles while receiving employability support and industry-recognised training.
By working directly with major UK housebuilders, the programme ensures that learning is aligned with real workforce needs, improving the chances of securing long-term careers in construction.

Diversifying the Home Building Sector in the UK
Housebuilding has traditionally been male-dominated, with women significantly underrepresented in trade and site-based roles. Women into Home Building helps break down common barriers such as:
-
limited access to training
-
lack of industry exposure
-
misconceptions about construction careers (as something for men only)
Ultimately, Women into Home Building promotes a more diverse, resilient, and future-ready housebuilding sector.
Did you know?
Did you know that women make up only 16% of the construction workforce, and only 4% of site managers in home building? This reflects the lack of gender diversity that Women into Home Building is trying to solve.
Learning People’s Partnership with Women into Home Building

We’re proud to support an initiative that aims to increase female representation in a space where talented site and project management professionals are in high demand.
